Introducing Maternal and Child Health Consortium
Maternal and Child Health Consortium (MCHC) is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to ensuring children in Chester County start healthy, stay healthy, and succeed in school. Created in 1991, MCHC was built based on the belief that everyone should have access to high-quality health care regardless of race, ethnicity, language, insurance status, or immigration status. Annually, MCHC serves upwards of 5,000 individuals in greater Chester County, with the mission to advocate for and empower prenatal and parenting families to achieve healthy beginnings and a bright future through a caring service culture.

MCHC’s Healthy Start home-visiting program provides pregnant and parenting people with evidence-based prenatal and postnatal health education, socio-emotional perinatal support, and connections to social services to improve maternal and infant health. Through the Family Benefits program, eligible individuals and families receive assistance with public benefits applications like MA, SNAP, and CHIP. Serving Southern Chester County families, MCHC’s Family Center home-visiting program provides families with early childhood development education, including a Fatherhood Initiative and a 2-week summer Kindergarten Transition Program. With a strong network of volunteers and supporters, they strive to create a world where every family has access to healthcare, education, and opportunities for success.

“The support we’re receiving from Sun East Foundation will allow Healthy Start to continue providing community-based services to improve the health of mothers and babies. We use the Baby Basics book, a month-to-month guide for a healthy pregnancy by The What to Expect Foundation to educate moms-to-be. In addition, we are grateful as our Community Health Workers will be able to provide infant and self-care basic items to moms enrolled in our program.”
